Giancarlo (John) Gillespie is a Toronto-based lawyer who provides clients across the GTA with a wide range of legal services in the areas of wills and estates, real estate law, family law, and business law. Giancarlo offers comprehensive, tailored support to his clients and emphasizes a clear, practical, and cost-efficient approach to solving legal issues.
After being called to the bar, Giancarlo gained broad experience at a general law firm in Toronto. During this time, he developed expertise in administering estates for high-net-worth clients and litigating contested wills, fiduciary misconduct claims, and trust disputes. His real estate practice encompassed residential and commercial transactions, complex multi-tenant industrial deals, and high-value property acquisitions. He has also guided clients through family law matters, skillfully negotiating the terms of separation agreements, property division, and support obligations to achieve practical resolutions.
In addition to his work as a lawyer, Giancarlo currently serves as the Executive Editor of the Modern Criminal Law Review, a journal exploring international criminal law. Prior to this, he also served as Executive Editor of the Critical Analysis of Law Journal for three years, further demonstrating his commitment to legal scholarship and advocacy.
Giancarlo earned his law degree from the University of Toronto Faculty of Law. During law school, he worked at Downtown Legal Services, a legal aid clinic operating in the downtown core. He also volunteered with Pro Bono Students Canada’s Record Suspensions Program. Before embarking on his legal career, Giancarlo earned his Honours Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from McMaster University, graduating summa cum laude.
In his spare time, Giancarlo enjoys spending time with his family and friends, cooking, playing guitar, and cheering on the Toronto Maple Leafs.
